Powters ‘Odd’s on Favourite’ at the 349th Newmarket Town Plate!

Powters proudly continued its support of the famous Newmarket Town Plate this weekend, now in its 349th yea – the historic race has been run in Newmarket since 1666! Open to amateur riders of all ages, many choose to enter for the challenge, the thrill or to be a part of the race’s long history.

This year’s winner was Michael Mullineaux, who finished third in the Newmarket Town Plate in 2017. Rumour has it Michael’s staff ate all the Powters sausages before he had a chance, so he is back this year to hopefully win some more. Michael turned 64 a not long ago, and says you are never too old to race!

The race was instigated by  King Charles II who became the first and only reigning monarch to win a race in 1671. He stated that it should be run ‘forever’. We’re keeping our support going for many years to come we hope!
